VSP records Rs 2,530-cr sales turnover

Visakhapatnam Steel Plant achieved record sales of Rs 2,530 crore in April-July, registering 31 per cent growth over sales during the corresponding period last year, according to a press release issued here.

The sales for the period comprise domestic sales of Rs 2,343 crore and exports of Rs 187 crore. The sales volume during the period was 9.27 lakh tonnes, a growth of 43 per cent over the corresponding period's volume last year. The special steels sold were of the order of 3.25 lakh tonnes, a growth of 75 per cent over last year.

The plant produced 1.355 million tonnes of hot metal, 1.202 million tonnes of liquid steel and 1.071 million tonnes of saleable steel during the period. The capacity utilisation in producing the hot metal, liquid steel and saleable steel amounted to 119 per cent, 120 per cent and 121 per cent respectively.

New initiatives

The steel plant, which is doubling its capacity from 3.2 million tonnes at a cost of Rs 8,600 crore, has launched integrated management system for the projects division, the first of its kind in the country, claims the press release.

Recently, the steel plant and the Manganese Ore India Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a joint venture to produce ferro alloys.
