Hyderabad , Aug. 14

The Regency Ceramics Group has announced the launch of its film and TV foray. It has set up the Regional Research Academy of Film & Television (RRAFT), at Yanam in Pondicherry.

RRAFT has been planning to provide both training and academic courses as well as a cost effective production facility for films and TV projects. Dr G.N. Naidu, the prime mover and Chief of Regency Group, said equipment and necessary trained personnel would be made available at affordable cost from RRAFT.

The RRAFT would be spread over eight acres area along the river Godavari in Yanam, which is incidentally close to Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh. It would also have a three -star hotel, dormitory and mess at subsidised cost, he told newspersons.

The Pondicherry administration, through its Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr Malladi Krishnarao, has actively encouraged the project.

The Pondicherry Government has planned to construct an imax theatre, laser show, own version of the Eiffel Tower and boat houses to turn Yanam into a tourist spot. RRAFT has also been trying to tie up with the Film Archives, Pune as well as establishing sound tracks library.

The Pondicherry Government has sanctioned 40 seats in each of the diploma courses, which cover areas like acting, direction and screenplay, video photography, sound engineering, cinema editing etc.

Besides offering diploma courses and undertaking research work, the Institute would offer short-term refresher courses for professionals. A special children's workshop inviting NRI children has been planned for June-July.

The out going students of the RRAFT would hopefully run the GNN channels, which the company is also planning to establish, Dr Naidu said.
