Visakhapatnam , Aug. 16

The Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) is chartering vessels for undertaking work on the stretch allotted to it in the Sethusamudram project, according to its Chairman and Managing Director, Mr N.K. Gupta.

In a message on the occasion of Independence Day, Mr Gupta said the DCI was looking into the possibility of augmenting its resources through chartering.

While the public sector company was equipped to take up maintenance dredging in all the Indian ports, it was feeling the constraint of resources in taking up capital dredging.

He said the DCI could charter one Russian vessel for undertaking dredging work in the Sethusamudram project and "it will join us shortly."

The company was making use of the services of Transchart under the Ministry of Shipping to charter dredgers for the balance work on Sethusamudram project.
