Opinion - Letters
Independent directors

Apropos the article, "Occupation under fire" (Business Line, August 17), it may not be right to assume that all, or most, independent directors have directorship up to the limit of 15 companies. Second, it does not follow that a director on the board of two or three companies will make a better contribution than his counterpart on a larger number of companies. It depends on the capability and commitment of the individual director and whether he hasthe time at his disposal. Third, the law generally does not make a distinction between an executive director and a part-time independent director. The latter is hauled up along with the former for such violations of law as bounced cheques, failure to file annual returns or remit statutory dues.
