Chennai , Aug. 17 Airtel has announced that it would offer general packet radio service (GPRS) at no extra rental for its post-paid customers in Tamil Nadu. Post-paid customers with GPRS enabled handsets would now be able to access the service, and can use the Internet on their handsets or on their laptops at Re 1 per every 100 kilobytes downloaded, said a release. Mr P. Swaminathan, Chief Executive Officer, Mobility, Chennai and Tamil Nadu, Bharti Airtel Ltd, was quoted in the release as saying that the company expects the usage to go up to 50 to 60 per cent of the post-paid customer base as a result of this offering from the current 4 to 5 per cent. Customers can avail themselves of this service by sending an SMS `MO' to 2567, a toll free SMS number.
