Chennai , Aug 18 Adidas launched its 5,700 sq ft flagship store in Chennai today, the company's second largest store in Asia, according to Mr Andreas Gellner, Managing Director, Adidas India. The largest is the 9,000 sq ft store that the company launched in Bangalore three months back. He told presspersons that the launch of these two large-format stores - referred to by the company as `sports performance centres' - is a part of the company's new strategy to provide a one-stop shop for sporting goods. The Chennai store covers two floors and has one floor devoted to women. Mr Gellner said that Adidas India would be looking at opening sports performance centres in all the major metros. The company now has 150 exclusive stores in India and 1,700 overall, counting all point-of-sale outlets; it plans to bring the number of exclusive stores to 220 by the end of the year and the overall point-of-sales outlets to 1,800. Mr Upendra Bhatia, Executive Director of Comfy ShoeMakers Pvt Ltd, the franchisee of the Chennai store, said that another floor devoted to children would be opened by January. With this the size of the store would cross 10,000 sq ft, making it the company's largest store in Asia.
