MR V. SRIDHAR
Kolkata , Aug. 17 UCO Bank will bring 500 branches under its Core Banking Solution (CBS) operations by March 2008. The bank has already commenced CBS operations with two data centres to take care of disaster recovery needs and business continuity planning. Speaking at the launch of its data centre in Kolkata, Mr V. Sridar, Chairman and Managing Director of UCO Bank, said the other data centre of the bank was located in Bangalore and 10 bank branches were under the CBS operations at present. By the end of September 2006, around 25 branches would be covered under the CBS operations even as the 500 branches would be brought under it by the end of 2007-08. Mr Sridar said the consolidated data centre had been designed by Hewlett-Packard (HP) even as it was based on Infosys' Finacle CBS. He said the data centre would help the bank reduce its management and operational costs, improve security and reduce risk. The data centre would host the server, storage and connectivity infrastructure of the bank. According to him, the project also includes an integrated alternate delivery channel management covering Internet banking, SMS banking, online share trading with demat facilities, and debit card and ATM services. The project was part of a five-year contract, under the terms of which HP would help UCO Bank to implement and manage CBS operations across 1,000 branches of the bank. The implementation of the project in its entirety would cost the bank Rs 139 crore. Mr Balu Doraisamy, Managing Director of HP India Sales Pvt Ltd, said management of data centres offered huge scope for business growth and, already, HP was managing data centres for five large banks.
