Digital technologies help in industry revival

It was estimated that the shop floor area would increase to 12 crore sq ft by 2008 from the present 3.5 crore sq ft.

Hyderabad , Aug. 18

The spurt in the number of retail malls in all major cities and towns in Andhra Pradesh is turning the hitherto insignificant signage industry active.

Mr V.V. Ramana, Promoter of Villart Expositions, pegs the size of signage industry in the State at Rs 600 crore.

"The retail space is increasing quite rapidly with more and more big players entering the field hoping to tap huge opportunities. All the retailers are focussing more on presenting their product offerings in an attractive way. Signage plays a major role in this," he said.

It was estimated that the shop floor area would increase to 12 crore sq ft by 2008 from the present 3.5 crore sq ft.

The signage industry itself was witnessing transformation over the years with the advent of digital technologies that included high-speed digital printers, he said.

"New technologies are being introduced. Understanding and adopting these technologies for enhanced business growth requires awareness on these emerging technologies," he said.

Realising this need, the expo company is organising a three-day expo on `Photography and signage industry' at the People's Plaza on the Necklace Road from September 1. The expo would provide a platform for the manufacturers, service providers, retailers and the users of these products, he said.

The products on display included signage machinery, touch screens, large format printers, 3D displays and plasma screens. Big names like Kodak, Canon, HP, Olympus, Xerox and Epson would showcase their products.

The expo was also aimed at bringing together players in all the allied sectors such as photography, digital imaging and information technology.

Besides focussing on signage industry, the expo would also be helpful for the photographers by updating them on the latest products and services.
