Spices Board invites application for awards

The Spices Board has invited applications from eligible growers to its various awards for 2006-07.

According to the board, there would be three productivity awards for small cardamom, large cardamom and vanilla, two organic farming awards for cardamom and vanilla and an award for organic spice farmers and the best post harvest practices in spices.

The awards consist of a first prize of Rs 25,000, citation and a certificate and two second prizes of Rs 15,000, citation and certificate each. Cardamom and vanilla growers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka can forward their applications in the prescribed format to the respective offices of the board on or before September 30. Applications for large cardamom productivity award can be had form the offices of Spices Board in Sikkim and West Bengal. The awards have been instituted to encourage healthy competition among the growers as also to promote organic cultivation, the board said.
