Gross bank credit up Rs 11,833 cr

Mumbai , Aug 18

Gross bank credit increased by Rs 11,833 crore and stood at Rs 15,61,418 crore for the fortnight ended August 4, according to the Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

The gross bank credit was inclusive of food credit, increased by Rs 232 crore to touch Rs 36,288 crore and non-food credit, whichincreased by Rs 11,601 crore to Rs 15,25,130 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investment in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper, outstanding on August 4 was at Rs 16,04,434 crore.
