Mumbai , Aug. 19 State-owned Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd (RCFL) has put up on its drawing board various expansion and modernisation schemes involving a capital expenditure of about Rs 750 crore over the next two years. In the current fiscal, over Rs 350 crore is being invested for upgradation and expansion projects. Mr U.S. Jha, RCFL's Chairman and Managing Director, told newspersons that the ammonia plant at Trombay had been modernised at a cost of Rs 250 crore this year, while the methanol plant was being expanded at a cost of Rs 107 crore. The company was also setting up an argon plant at Thal at a cost of Rs 95 crore, besides planning to manufacture load-bearing gypsum panels out of phospho-gypsum, a waste product, at its Trombay plant. "The joint venture DAP project with Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd in Rajasthan is at an advanced stage this will produce 2.5 lakh tonnes of DAP and the estimated cost of the project is about Rs 410 crore," he said. Mr Jha said the company was mulling options to make economic use of its surplus land. He, however, was not willing to divulge details on the proposed project or the extent of surplus land available. The company reported a net profit of Rs 147.96 crore last fiscal, as against Rs 140.96 crore in 2004-05. Its turnover rose to Rs 3,204 crore during the year from Rs 2,895 crore in the previous fiscal. While its sale of fertilisers touched Rs 2,681crore, industrial products fetched the company Rs 420 crore during the year.
