PNB tax-saver FD scheme

Punjab National Bank has announced a scheme for investors looking to park their funds in term deposits of five years and above along with the availability of tax benefits under Section 80C of the Income-Tax Act.

A bank release said that customers can now open `PNB Tax Saver Fixed Deposit' accounts at any branch with initial deposit of Rs 100 only or in multiples thereof subject to maximum deposit of Rs 1 lakh a year for a period of five years and maximum of 10 years.

The rate of interest is eight per cent per annum and 8.5 per cent for senior citizens.To avail Section 80C benefits, the lock-in period is five years. Under the scheme, the investor can choose income option (outflow of interest) or maturity option.
