IFMR ropes in Harvard professor for content development

The Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR) has roped in renowned Harvard professor, Dr Sendhil Mullainathan, to assist the institute in developing course content and guide researchers in behavioural and development finance.

Dr Mullainathan, who was born in Tamil Nadu and migrated to the US as a young boy, has a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. He also has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Cornell University. He was a faculty member in the Economics Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining Harvard as a Professor of Economics. Dr Mullainathan's acclaimed research work was in `behavioural economics'. He has been profiled in the Forbes magazine, which described him as "one of the perhaps four or five of his generation leading the overhaul of the traditional economic model". He was also awarded the MacArthur Foundation `Genius' award in 2003.

The Chennai-based IFMR has announced the commencement of `IFMR Distinguised Fellowship Programme". Under this programme, Dr Mullainathan has been named the first Distinguished Fellow.

Dr Mullainathan, has been involved in a number of projects of IFMR's Centre for Development Finance.
