MR S. BALAJI, Assistant Vice-President, Team Lease Services, addressing students at the BL Club meeting at the Sathyabama Deemed University in Sholinganallur.

Chennai , Aug. 20

"The first four years of your learning in the industry is important. It helps you to build a strong foundation. Therefore, don't be crazy about the top companies. Look at companies in tier two and three where you will get better opportunities to learn, experiment and interact with the top brass," said Mr S. Balaji, Assistant Vice-President, Team Lease Services, Chennai, at a BL Club seminar at Sathyabama Deemed University, Sholinganallur.

"Chennai is booming. Every one of you is likely to get a job. More than 2 lakh jobs in the next two years are awaiting you in Chennai, out of which 30-35 per cent will be campus recruitments. In addition, no company can say that they have enough people to meet their needs due to the expanding business needs on the one hand and high levels of attrition on the other," he added.

To the students who are on the verge of passing out this year, he listed what the industry expects from them.

Commanding communication to interacting with people from across countries and continents, positive attitude and right aptitude, willingness to learn, listening skills, as it is more important than talking skills, high energy levels, initiative, leadership and team spirit, clarity, confidence, and setting milestones.

Mr Balaji advised the graduates not to get frustrated after three or four interviews. Companies are desperate to get talented people.

"Develop your skills and you will find many takers. Develop networks with your friends, senior and classmates as it will help you get better prospects," he said. Besides more than 400 students of final year MBA & MCA, Dr S.S. Rau, HoD, MBA department, and Mr S. Sridhar, Asst. Regional General Manager (Circulation), The Hindu were also present.
