DTDC Courier to begin China operations next month

Panaji , Aug. 21

Even as it is all set to expand its international operations further by beginning its China operations next month, DTDC Courier & Cargo Ltd, an air express and cargo company, is also scouting for reputed groups and companies in courier industry for acquisition to step up growth and consolidate its market share.

For the moment, the company, which has already spread out to the US, the UK and West Asia, is gearing to enter China and the Far East through its recent tie-up of service agreement with the international group, Kerry Logistics. Operations would begin from September 1.

Mr Subhasish Chakraborty, Chairman and Managing Director of DTDC Courier & Cargo Ltd, who was here to expand the company's Goa operations, said on Sunday, the company recently entered into an association with Reliance ADAG Group with the latter acquiring a 40 per cent shareholding with an investment of Rs 70 crore.

Growth plans

"Having such a partner, we have major growth plans, both organic and inorganic, in the Express and Cargo segment," said Mr Chakraborty, as he reiterated his desire to look out for companies for acquisition.

He opined that with over 2,500 big and small courier companies, the country's courier market share is still dominated by the unorganised sector - which forms around 55 per cent.

For Goa, the group is looking forward to further consolidate its presence by recognising the fact that it is a huge international market, on account of its tourism market and growing export industry, and intends to develop products to suit both tourists and locals.
