High-quality management education thru virtual classrooms

The programmes offered by IIMC would be on strategic management for senior executives and on applied finance for executives in finance functions.

Kolkata , Aug. 22

Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) on Tuesday entered into a strategic alliance with NIIT Ltd to offer executive development programmes through virtual classrooms. A memorandum of understanding in this regard was signed here by the two institutions.

The tie-up will enable high-quality management education to be delivered across the country through specially designed centres of advanced learning. IIMC will design the programmes, deliver them through its experienced faculty and conduct evaluation and certification. On its part, NIIT will provide the technology for virtual classrooms and implement and manage the initiative.

Through the alliance, IIMC will offer two programmes. While one would be on strategic management for senior executives, the other would be on applied finance for executives in finance functions.

The first programme is aimed at enabling participants to broaden their business perspective, develop tools and techniques required for managing organisations and transform them into leaders in their respective organisations. The second programme aims at providing cutting edge knowledge in the frontiers of finance using latest pedagogy to develop brilliant financial minds.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri, Director of IIMC, said: "The overwhelming demand for our management development programmes has led us to seek technological solutions to reach out to a larger number of aspirants. This initiative is in line with our vision of taking quality management education to different parts of the country, for executives working in varied areas in Indian organisations. We hope to reach out to a large section of professionals, leveraging our content and NIIT's vast experience in the delivery of technology-enabled education."

Mr Rajendra S. Pawar, Chairman of NIIT, said: "With our special synchronous learning technology and learning management systems, we hope to recreate the campus experience at the centres we are setting up for these executive development programmes. Together with IIMC's high-quality programmes and faculty, we expect to offer the best-in-class training for working professionals across the country," he said.
