Dams and floods

In recent years, many dams are full even before the onset of the monsoon. Thus, with the fresh influx of water that the rains bring, huge quantities of water are released from the dams, aggravating the problem of flooding.

The recent flooding in Surat is an example. Through effective and continuing interaction with meteorological experts, if the dam managements release water for irrigation and power generation before the onset of the monsoon, the purpose of the dams, built at huge public expense, would be better served.
