Tiruchi, Aug. 24

The Goldenrock Railway Workshop has despatched five in-service metre gauge locomotives to Senegal after carrying out necessary modifications and overhaul. The Chief Workshop Manager, Mr S. Rangarajan, flagged off the locomotives at a brief function held at the workshop premises here on Wednesday.

The Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) had entrusted the workshop with the task of overhauling and modifying five in-service metre gauge locomotives for export to Senegal. The modified engines were provided with air brake system in place of vacuum brake system, cushioned driver seat with swivelling type, LED type classification light and reading lamp and twin beam head lights for better luminosity and visibility.

The locos were overhauled and modified in three months time. A technical team from the workshop would be deputed to Senegal to commission the locomotives in that country, a press release issued by the Workshop here on Thursday said.
