Oriental Cuisine to expand operations

To open new eateries in Chennai

Chennai , Aug. 24

Oriental Cuisine Private Ltd, owner of restaurants such as Benjarong, Zara and China Town, is investing about Rs 30 crore to expand in India and abroad besides setting up new restaurants in India.

The company part owns the Planet Yumm chain of food courts and will set up four outlets at the RMZ tech park in Bangalore, one outlet in the RMZ Millenium Tech park along Old Mahabalipuram Road, Chennai's IT corridor, and an outlet on MG Road, Bangalore, said Mr M. Mahadevan, Director. Each outlet will see an investment of about Rs 2 crore.

Oriental Cuisine has been given a letter of intent to set up a Planet Yumm outlet at Mahindra Tech City in Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai.

The company will start Chennai's first Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet at the Ascendas Tech park next month.

Mr Mahadevan's Dubai-based company Hot Breads Holdings LLC will invest about Rs 10 crore to set up a total of seven Hot Breads outlets in Dubai, the US and London.

Hot Breads Holdings LLC promotes the Hot Breads brand outside of India.

Oriental Cuisine also holds stake in the international operations of the Saravana Bhavan chain of eateries and is investing about Rs 4 crore for a 6,000 sq ft Saravana Bhavan outlet in New Jersey.

In a joint venture, it is investing Rs 2 crore to set up its Thai speciality restaurant Benjarong and Spanish bar Zara in Hyderabad.

The company will open new eateries in Chennai.

"We are starting a chocolate house that will be headed by well-known chocolatier Christian Gautier," said Mr Mahadevan.

To be called "La Brioche", this 6,000 sq ft 40-seat eatery with an investment of Rs 65 lakh will come up on Harrington Road by November.

It is also starting "Cream Centre", a speciality restaurant on Greenways Road that will offer Mexican, Italian, Lebanese and Indian cuisine.

A joint venture with two local partners, about Rs 1 crore will be invested in this 92-seat vegetarian restaurant.

The company has started a Malabar food fine dining restaurant "Ende Keralam" in Poes Garden.

About Rs 25 lakh will be spent to revamp the premises to seat 85 people.

Oriental Cuisine fully owns Thai speciality restaurant Benjarong, Spanish bars Zara and Tapas, Chinese food restaurants Wang's Kitchen (Franchise rights) and China Town.

The company holds 50 per cent stake in North Indian cuisine restaurant Copper Chimney and the Hot Breads bakery chain.
