Thiruvananthapuram, Aug.24

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 22 crore in the Railway supplementary budget for the second-phase development of the Kochuveli coaching terminal in the suburbs. Announcing this, Mr Thomas Varghese, General Manager, Southern Railway, said the Railways intended to raise 10 platforms and supporting facilities such as stabling lines and pit lines at Kochuveli.

This would render easy the handling of long distance mail and express trains that normally end their journey at Thiruvananthapuram Central. Earlier, Mr Varghese carried out a detailed inspection of the Kochuveli terminal with top officials. A sum of Rs 1 crore had been sanctioned in the Railway Budget for the second-phase development of Kochuveli.
