TRAI issues rules to amend CAS norms

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Aug. 24

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Thursday issued a regulation to amend the interconnect regulations to provide standard forms of interconnect agreements for the Conditional Access System (CAS) areas.

In a statement the Authority has said that the objective of having standard interconnection agreements was to ensure that implementation of CAS does not get delayed in case the service providers fail to enter into mutually acceptable interconnection agreements through negotiations within the stipulated time. CAS is to roll out in specified areas in Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi from December 31.

TRAI has also asked all broadcasters and multi system operators to confirm by October 15 that the interconnect agreements have been signed in the areas notified by the Government.
