Ravva crude sought for Visakha Ref

Visakhapatnam , Aug. 24

Mr N. Janardhana Reddy, Member of Parliament from Visakhapatnam, also Chairman of the Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas, has urged the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to allocate the entire crude produced in the Ravva offshore oil field in the Krishna-Godavari basin to the Visakha refinery of the HPCL.

In a letter to Mr M.S. Srinivasan, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, he has said that Ravva crude, of very low sulphur content, would reduce pollution levels in Visakhapatnam.

The Ravva oil field being in the vicinity of Kakinada, the transport costs could also be reduced.

Besides, local industries such as Coramandel Fertilisers would have the advantage of using eco-friendly fuel.

Low sulphur crude

"In the environmentally sensitive Vizag bowl areas, it is essential that low-sulphur crude is processed to minimise sulphur di-oxide emissions," he notes in the letter, a copy of which was released here on Thursday.

The total production of the Ravva offshore oil field at present is around 2.4 million tonnes per annum.

The fields are operated by a consortium consisting of ONGC, Cairn Enery and Videocon.

Currently,a portion of the Ravva crude is being refined in the Visakha refinery and the rest sent to the Assam region.
