Hyderabad , Aug. 24 Natco Pharma Ltd (NPL) has launched a drug for the treatment of multiple myeloma in the injection form under the brand Bortenat (Bortezomib) in 3.5 mg dosage. Multiple myeloma (characterised by the abnormal plasma cell in the bone marrow) is cancer of the plasma cell, which represents the immune system that produces immunoglobulins to help fight infection and disease, the company said in a press release here on Thursday. The company shas priced Bortenat at Rs 16,800 (MRP) as against Rs 75,000 for the imported medicine. Being a pre-1995 invention, the company said it would not expect any litigation around this molecule. From among the several types of blood cancers, multiple myeloma is the second most prevalent and represents one per cent of all cancers.
