The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated that the Direct-To-Home (DTH) service providers should not insist on any exclusive arrangement for installation of Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU) technology to the detriment of other distributor television channel.
TRAI, that released its recommendations on licensing issues relating to the DTH on Friday, has also said that the signals from the MDU technology shall not be provided to a consumer outside the MDU building, where the MDU technology is installed.
Furthermore, the TRAI has stipulated that the DTH operator should obtain written consent from those subscribers living in a MDU that want to avail themselves of the facility before installing it. A general permission obtained from the office bearers of the resident welfare association or group housing society would not be considered sufficient, the TRAI has said.
