The Hindu Business Line : E-learning academy to help meet manpower shortage

Well-known content industry players such as Anim Graphix, Eduranet, Fotocafe, TMI, Sri Satya Sai Designing Studios, Arraynz and so on have contributed in formulating programmes for e-learning that promise to provide both skills and good career to students.

Taking them to the target students and interested people would be SmarTeach E-Learning Academy, which has been floated by the Hyderabad-based MEdRC EduTech, a decade-old company specialising in e-learning platforms and multimedia products.

SmarTeach E-Learning Academy will be launched on August 28. Courses will be offered on a range of topics such as content writing, graphic design, digital video, instructional design, 3D animation, cartooning, advanced flash scripting and so on, said Dr Neeraj Raj, Managing Director, MEdRC.

GROWTH SECTOR

E-learning industry is a potential growth sector. Propelled by outsourcing demands, the sector is expected to absorb 100,000 to 150,000 skilled manpower in the next five years. Worldwide the market is projected to grow to around $28 billion by 2008 from $7 billion in 2004.

At present, India employs about 30,000-40,000 people in about 400 companies of varying sizes. They are also less visible unlike BPOs (Business Process Outsourcing) in the IT industry, because they are small and have not gone public, except EduCom, Dr Neeraj Raj told newspersons on Friday.

`BIG OPPORTUNITY'

Seeing the big opportunity in terms of shortage of manpower and demands, the company decided to launch the Academy. Courses of short duration would be offered at affordable rate of Rs 2,000 to Rs 20,000. He said a fresher, can hope to get a starting salary of Rs 10,000-12,000 per month and grow to Rs 20,000-25,000 in a couple of years.
