Infrastructure Singapore eyeing SEZ opportunities in India Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 26 Singapore is scouting for a suitable location or locations to tap the unfolding opportunity of SEZs in India. A high-level delegation, led by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Singapore Minister of Sate for Education and Manpower, visited Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad in the last few days. Mr Gan, however, said that participation would happen either in these States or in other States. "Our Government does not invest in these projects. We will just facilitate private companies to explore the opportunities," he said.
Two kinds
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting organised to explore bilateral trade opportunities here on Friday, he said the participation of Singapore companies would be of two kinds. "They will directly participate in the SEZ development. Also, they may set up factories in those zones. We are looking at both possibilities," he said. The delegation included representatives from Ascendas Pte Ltd and SIP Consultants. Mr Gan said Singapore also sought further collaborations in the education sector. It was in talks with some schools in India to forge alliances for exchange programmes and other academic areas.
