CAs' seminar on CPE

Our Bureau

Kochi , Aug. 28

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the Southern Indian Regional Council jointly organised a one-day seminar on continuing professional education (CPE) here.

Inaugurating the seminar, the Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, said that the State Government is losing huge revenue by way of tax evasion. The chartered accountants in the State had a role to play to help the Government in curbing the erosion of public funds, which can be utilised for the overall development of the State.

Mr K. Rahman Khan, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, said that the framers of the Constitution and the Constituent Assembly had thought of regulating the accounting in the country. But in the last 58 years, the country has failed in maintaining proper accounting and also in making people accountable.

COST ESCALATION

The biggest problem of the day is a cost escalation. There are no proper accounts on what we spent and the benefit we achieve out of that in government.

The ICAI National President, Mr T.N. Manoharan, presided over the function. The Central Committee member, Mr Santhilal Daga, South India Council Secretary, Mr Babu Abraham Kallivayalil, and former Chairman, Mr V.C. James, spoke at the seminar.
