Infrastructure Government - Policy States - Karnataka Panel clears 40 mega projects in Karnataka Our Bureau
Bangalore , Aug. 28 The State high-level committee on Monday cleared 40 large industrial proposals with a total investment potential of Rs 62,864 crore. Nine new SEZs for IT and ITES are among them, taking the total SEZ tally from Karnataka to 34; 19 of them have been cleared by the Centre's Board of Approval. The mega projects (of over Rs 50-crore investment each) at various locations in the State will mean employment opportunities for 6.3 lakh people, according to the Chief Minister, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, who chairs the committee, and the Large Industries Minister, Mr Katta Subramanya Naidu. Up to August this year, the committee has cleared 285 projects proposing total investments of Rs 5,370.54 crore, they told a news briefing.
Latest approvals
Latest approvals are for new and expansion projects of MRPL; cement plants by Jaykaycem, ACC, JSW and Ultratech; a Rs 70-crore inter-modal logistics plan by Shipco Infrastructure, among others. Educational institution JSS Mahavidya Peetha has proposed to set up a Rs 207-crore centre for SME development and training at Dharwad. Among the latest clearances are proposals by MRPL: Rs 30,000 crore for new refinery at Surathkal and Rs 7,943 crore for expansion; Adarsh Prime Projects: Rs 5,867 crore IT/ITES SEZ in Bangalore; Shapoorji Pallonji: Rs 5,779 crore for IT hardware SEZ in Bangalore; Bagamane Developers: Rs 1,559 crore for two IT/ITES SEZs in Bangalore; Total Environment: Rs 2,580 crore for IT SEZ in Bangalore; ITASCA Software: Rs 1,130 crore for IT/ITES SEZ in Bangalore; JSW Cement: Rs 422 crore for cement plant in Bellary; ACC: Rs 946 crore for two cement plants ; QuEST: Rs 112 crore for IT SEZ in Hubli and Heritage Golf: Rs 263.50 crore for golf course cum hotel in Mysore.
