`Subscriber verification flaws being corrected'

COAI stance
"All the operators are co-operating with the Government to make sure that the subscriber verification process of mobile users is being followed as per the guidelines laid down."

New Delhi , Aug. 28

Cellular operators have said that corrective measures are being taken to plug the loopholes that have come to the fore during the recent survey undertaken by the Department of Telecom.

On the other hand, Tata Teleservices has asked DoT to provide details of the subscribers whose application for a connection were found to be approved without proper verification.

Tata Teleservices has told DoT that such sample surveys across a few thousand subscribers in a few cities cannot be used to extrapolate whether subscriber verification is taking place across the entire circle.

`An industry issue'

Mr T.V. Ramachandran, Director-General, Cellular Operators' Association of India said, "This is an industry issue, not of any particular operator. We are taking action on collecting appropriate documents from each and every subscriber. This is going on a war-footing. All the operators are co-operating with the Government to make sure that the subscriber verification process of mobile users is being followed as per the guidelines laid down."
