Implementing bans

The issue of banning colas refuses to die down. The decision of the Kerala Government to ban their production and sale is welcome, as it has been done in the interest of the health of the people.

However, one wonders how affective the ban will be, given the state of other bans in the State, such as the one on smoking in public places and on production and sale of arrack.

Such bans only encourage corruption.

Unless the authorities are ready to implement it in the right spirit, people will continue to have access to these products.

Does the ban on colas imply that the Government is convinced that other food items such as fruits and vegetables are free from pesticides? Or will the government ban the sale of these items also?
