New dredger from India Techs

Our Bureau

Kochi , Aug. 30

Kochi-based India Techs Ltd has introduced a multi-purpose dredger named Dredge Utility Craft (DUC) for use in dredging water bodies, inland waterways and small canals.

Constructed at a cost of Rs 35 lakh, the dredger can be used for regular cleaning of water bodies as well as to remove blocks in the waterways due to accumulation of mud and silt deposits, which are killing natural streams.

Mr George Vinci Thomas, Managing Director, said that the dredger could navigate through narrow canals and drains that cannot be accessed by conventional dredgers and land-based excavators.

FEATURES

It can make its way to restricted shallow waters and effectively remove floating weeds as well as rooted vegetation using the specially designed weed-cleaning bucket.

Mr Thomas said that the waterways in the canals often get blocked due to inadequate cleaning.

The accumulation of waste in the sewage blocks the flow and provides breeding ground for disease-causing germs and flies. The dredge utility craft offers a solution to all these problems, he said.

DESIGN APPROVAL

The company has got design approvals for the dredger from the Ship Technology division of the Cochin University of Science and Technology.

There are enquiries from various Departments regarding the facilities of the dredger, which can be suitably used for urban waste management and dredge canals and waterways to make them navigable.
