Good demand lifts prices at Kochi tea sale

Good general demand propped up prices at the Kochi tea auction. There was 9,05,000 kg of dust tea on offer and CTC bolder grades moved up by Rs 2-4. Prices of high grown CTC varieties remained steady to dearer by Rs 1-3, while medium CTC moved up by Rs 2-5, and sometimes even higher.

Best CTC dust varieties commanded prices between Rs 65 and Rs 78, medium CTC ranged between Rs 57 and Rs 62, while below medium was at Rs 50-55. High grown BOPD dust was quoted at Rs 90-112, medium BOPD at Rs 52-55 and secondaries traded at Rs 45-48.

Leaf tea

There was 2,27,000 kg of leaf tea on offer, which witnessed good demand from buyers. Prices of orthodox grades moved up by Rs 2-4, high grown orthodox remained steady to dearer by Rs 2-3, while CTC grades were generally dearer by Rs 2-4. Leaf grades, both CTC and orthodox witnessed good demand from exporters.

Best Nilgiri broken leaves fetched Rs 72-82, medium orthodox quoted at Rs 53-70 and plain orthodox was at Rs 48-50. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 55-58, while medium CTC leaf was at Rs 50-54.

Top prices

Kodanad BOPD realised the top price in the dust segment at Rs 112, followed by Pasuparai FD at Rs 108, Hittakal SFD at Rs 103 and Hittakal SRD at Rs 97. In the leaf segment, Chamraj OP fetched the top price at Rs 112, followed by Tiger Hill BOPF at Rs 108, Chamaraj FOP at Rs 107 and Havukal BOPF at Rs 107.
