Gross bank credit rises Rs 14,728 cr

Mumbai , Sept 1

Gross bank credit increased by Rs 14,728 crore to stand at Rs 15,76,145 crore for the fortnight ended August 18, according to Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

It includes food credit which moved up by Rs 247 crore to touch Rs 36,535 crore and non-food credit, which rose by Rs 14,481 crore to Rs 15,39,611 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector through bank credit and investment in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper, outstanding as on August 18 was Rs 16,19,023 crore.
