Human Resources Variety - Entertainment & Leisure `Opportunities galore for animation artists' Our Bureau
Bangalore , Sept. 4 There are opportunities galore for the Indian animation and gaming industry, said industry stalwarts assembled at India's first animation and gaming conference held in the city on Sunday. India needs five lakh animation artists to take advantage of the outsourcing opportunity by 2010, said Mr Rajiv Vaishnav, Regional Director (West), Nasscom. Animation solutions from here can be offered at one-fourth the cost of films made by US counterparts. Opportunities would be the biggest in mobile gaming segment as the present growth rate of 15 per cent was likely to shoot up to 28 per cent by 2009, he said. While India's animation industry accounts for a mere one per cent of the global market, the industry was upbeat about the future. The fest, organised by the Association of Bangalore Animation Industry (ABAI), also brought the likes of Subhash Ghai, filmmaker, who felt "telling a story is more important than use of technology". Infosys' HR director, Mr T.V. Mohandas Pai, spoke of the need to focus on human relations. and proposed that the private sector be roped in to provide collateral infrastructure to the animation and gaming industry.
