Tea Quality teas dearer at Coimbatore auctions Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Sept. 4 The total offerings at the weekly tea auction, held here on Friday totalled 4.51 lakh kgs of which the leaf grades was less than 50 per cent of the offered volume at 1.97 lakh kgs. The balance was of the dust. Better quality teas ruled dearer but the market remained irregular on the quality front. CIS exporters and major blenders supported the high grown larger Orthodox teas and well-made brokens, resulting in dearer price levels of Rs 2 to Rs 3 a kg. Among the mediums, the better types of teas were dearer by Rs 2 - Rs 3 a kg. There was a fair demand for the orthodox dust, but the market was irregular, with most of teas being absorbed by few internal buyers and exporters.
CTC grades irregular
The CTC grades were also in good demand but the rates were irregular. Good liquoring CTC leaf and better mediums were dearer by Re 1 - Rs 2/kg. The medium/plain and bolder grades ruled irregular around the earlier week's levels while the better appearance smaller brokens and fannings were sought by internal buyers. There were export enquiries as well. Exporters and HLL were the main stay for CTC leaf grades. The demand for CTC dust slackened as the sale progressed. Buying support was good both from internal buyers and major blenders. AVT and Indcoserve operated on good liquoring teas. The orthodox high growns were quoting around Rs 67 and Rs 77/kg, while the CTC grades ranged between Rs 53 and Rs 62/kg.
