Rajahmundry, Sept. 4

A 600-tonne-per-day paper mill, to be accorded the status of a special economic zone, is being set up at Bayyaram village near Kovvuru in West Godavari district at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore, according to Mr T. Srinivisa Rao, the Chairman.

At a press meet here on Monday, he said the Union Ministry of Commerce had cleared White Field Paper Mills Ltd. It would produce writing and printing paper. The pulp would be imported from Elof Hansson group Sweden, one of the leading pulp suppliers in the world.

He said a memorandum of understanding was signed with the group for supply of raw material as well as buy-back of the finished products.

He said the imports of the raw material and the export of the finished products would be carried out through the Kakinada port. Of the project cost, Rs 800 crore would be in the form of a foreign loan.

The mill would provide employment to 1,000 locals directly and a number of ancillaries would also come up in the region. A gas pipeline would be laid by the GAIL and steps would be taken for creating other infrastructure. The paper mill would start production by 2008, he added.
