TCI introduces new road freight index

Our Bureau

Mumbai Sept. 5

Transport Corporation of India (TCI) has introduced a new road freight index that involves weighted average freight rates compiled across various routes.

The index, which would help forecast freight trends and future freight rates, varies directly with the movement of freight rates.

Based on a formula that is calculated individually for each separate route, the index has incorporated new high volume routes in keeping with the changing traffic trends.

It is expected to facilitate planning and deployment of vehicles to gain the most from high volume routes and prediction of immediate impact of seasonal and regulatory changes.
