Mumbai , Sept. 5 Tata Consultancy Services has appointed Dr Ron Sommer, former Chairman of Deutsche Telekom, as additional Independent Director. Prior to joining Deutsche Telekom, Dr Sommer had spent 15 years (1980-1995) with Japan's Sony Corp managing its German, US and European operations, said a statement from TCS. "Ron Sommer's presence on the board of Tata Consultancy Services will help us create a strong, independent board with directors of a global stature and varied business experience," said Mr S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD, at TCS. "Ron's experience and counsel on the board of directors will be valuable to the TCS leadership team as the company continues to grow globally and at a fast pace." Dr Sommer's addition to the board of directors at TCS increases the number of Independent Directors to five, including Harvard professor Mr Clayton Christensen; former HSBC chief Mr Aman Mehta; former Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of India and Indian Ambassador to the US, Mr Naresh Chandra; and the head of GlaxoSmithKline, Asia, Mr S. Thiagarajan. The two executive directors of the company are Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman, and Mr Ramadorai.
