New Delhi , Sept. 5

The Citigroup Micro Entrepreneur Award programme, launched in India in 2004, is now being expanded as a global initiative to over 20 countries, including Mexico, Brazil, China, South Africa, Venezuela and the Philippines, said a release.

The objective of the 2006 Citigroup Micro Entrepreneur Award programme is to illustrate and promote the effective role that microfinance plays in poverty alleviation around the world. The Citigroup Foundation has supported this award programme through a grant of $200,000 to Partners in Change (PiC), a Delhi-based NGO, for implementing the programme.
