Airlines Finnair to launch Delhi-Helsinki flight from Oct 31 Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept 6 THE national airline of Finland, Finnair, is to start a three times a week non-stop flight between Helsinki and Delhi from October 31 this year. "We will be using a MD-11 aircraft that would offer seats in both business and economy class. The airline will look to enhance operations to a daily flight from October next year," the airlines Director Sales, Indian Subcontinent, Ms Taina Tornstrom, said. The flight would provide convenient and fast connections to northern parts of Europe including Germany, airline officials said. On the airlines' expansion plans, Ms Tornstrom said Finnair is examining the option of operating flights to either Chennai or Mumbai. "The decision to operate flights to any other city here would be taken only after the flight to Delhi has become a daily service," Ms Tornstrom added. The airline has already tied up with a number of airlines in India including Indian, Air India and is in talks with Kingfisher. "The bookings for the flight have been very encouraging and we expect to report a passenger load factor of around 80 per cent in the first year itself. ," Ms Tornstrom said.
