Corporates from Andhra Pradesh are increasingly making their presence felt in the UK, which offers several advantages as a global hub for finance, consulting and outsourcing.

Northgate Technologies, Aurobindo Pharma, Satyam Computers, Clintox Biosciences, Ocimum BioSolutions and Dr Reddy's are some of the well known Hyderabad-based firms which have discovered the competitive edge of setting up in the UK, according to data available from the UK High Commission.

Mutual interest

In turn, corporates from the UK are also increasing their presence in Andhra Pradesh including HSBC, Singularity Software, Aurona Technologies, SPG Media etc. Highlighting the growing mutual interest in the industry from both countries, the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), which advises Indian firms on investing in the UK, brought together a meeting here last week. UKTI's new Director, Trade & Investment in Delhi, Ms Jane Owen participated.

One of the UK's largest investments in AP is HSBC's data processing centre in Hyderabad, the biggest in India employing 7,000 staff. HSBC Electronic Data Processing India Pvt Ltd (HDPI) forms part of HSBC's Global Resourcing network.

UK involvement in Hyderabad's upcoming new international airport is also significant.

In the planning stage is a major Greenfield brewery from the Cobra Beer Company, which is promoted by Mr Karan Billimoria, who hails from Hyderabad and is the President of the Indo-UK Trade Body based in London.
