Re gains on $ inflows, exporter selling

The rupee gained against the greenback for the third day in a row on good dollar inflows and exporter selling. The domestic currency opened at 46.30/31, touched a high of 46.10/11, before ending trade at 46.16/17.

On Tuesday, the rupee had closed at 46.28. This is a two-month high for the rupee. "The spot rupee gained by about 12 paise. There were good inflows into the system as exporters sold dollars," said a dealer with a private bank. However, the dollar strengthened overseas against all currencies including the yen, said the dealer.

The forward premia came down by 2 paise. The six-month premium closed at 1.27 per cent (1.29 per cent) and the one-year premium closed at 1.3 per cent (1.33 per cent).
