Company expanding Gurgaon plant capacity

New Delhi , Sept 6

Suzuki is exploring the possibility of using Railways' freight services for inland transportation for the export of about four lakh cars after 2009, said Railway Minister Mr Lalu Prasad.

Suzuki is expanding its Gurgaon plant capacity to manufacture cars for export.

In a related incident, in the run-up to Mr Prasad's scheduled talk at IIM-Ahmedabad, Prof G. Raghuram also presented the case study on `Turnaround of Indian Railways'. The study was jointly conducted by IIM-Ahmedabad and Railway Staff College, Vadodara. It was sponsored by Indian Railways.

Listing the challenges in sustaining the present performance of Indian Railways, the study says that the turnaround can be sustained if the political leadership is well intentioned and has consistency of direction. It added that the top management needed to be commercially oriented with a corporate culture. It also called for a top-down restructuring of the organisation and merging of different cadres.
