Bengal Govt okays Hind Motors' Uttarpara plant revival plan

Kolkata , Sept. 6

Hindustan Motors Ltd has announced that it has received "formal intimation" from the West Bengal Government to expand and diversify its Uttarpara plant.

The company's "Revival & Renewal" proposal "that would bring its automotive industrial complex at Uttarpara back to profitability and financial health" had been pending with the State Government for some time now.

The company expects to incur an expenditure of Rs 85 crore to modernise and grow its operations in Uttarpara.

According to the company, the proposal had envisaged diversification and expansion into the auto components sector by developing a modern and large-sized automotive forgings, automotive castings and automotive stampings business by cost-effectively leveraging existing facilities and infrastructure.

The proposal had also envisaged sustaining the existing vehicle business by expanding range and upgrading technology and transforming work practices with a view to achieving competitiveness in quality, cost and delivery.

The company has stated that the proposed investment was in line with what was submitted in its application to the West Bengal Government. The company had applied to the State Government seeking permission for alternative use of 314 acres of surplus land at its Uttarpara complex. Over the next 4-5 years, the 314 acres of land would house a world class integrated IT & ITES township and an auto ancillary park.
