Cabinet nod for Patna bridge project

New Delhi, Sept. 7

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today gave its approval for enlarging the ongoing rail bridge over river Ganga near Patna to rail-cum-road-bridge at a total cost of Rs 1,389 crore, the official spokesperson said here today. The bridge is expected to be completed in five years.

The bridge will provide relief to the existing distressed road bridge — Mahatma Gandhi Setu and will connect Patna on the southern bank with Sonepur (Hajipur) on the northern bank. The share of the Railways in project cost will be Rs 835 crore and that of road under Bihar package would be Rs 554 crore, the spokesperson added. This is one of the mega bridge projects under the National Rail Vikas Yojna.
