Bangalore , Sept. 9

, More bad news for HR managers in IT companies. The IDC-Dataquest Best Employer Survey 2006 reports that the overall industry employee satisfaction index has dropped by about 11 per cent when compared to last year, thus pushing attrition levels from 14 per cent to 15 per cent this year. Mr Shailendra Gupta, Manager, User Research, IDC (India) Ltd, says, "This decline in satisfaction and retention levels can be directly attributed to the steady increase in expectation levels of the employees and the inability of the employers in managing the same."

Single-largest factor

The study, covering 32 IT companies and 3006 employees of the participating companies found that growth opportunities and career development as the single-largest factor driving job satisfaction. Other highlights of the study were that satisfaction index of male employees was higher than that of female employees, satisfaction index increased with number of years of experience and hardware and marketing professionals displayed higher satisfaction levels when compared to software engineers.

While TCS was ranked the top company in the satisfaction index, smaller companies like RMSI, Cadence and Induslogic emerged among the top 10 companies.
