Infrastructure States - Kerala MoU signed to set up centre for perishable commodities Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Sept. 12 The State Government, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a perishable commodities centre near CIAL airport at Nedumbassery in Ernakulam. The project, which be jointly set up by APEDA and CIAL, is part of the effort to boost the export of agricultural products from Kerala, says an official press release. The total investment in the project is expected to be Rs 24.73 crore. Of this, APEDA will contribute Rs 13.20 crore and CIAL the remaining Rs 11.53 crore, the release adds.
built-up area
According to Mr Sriram Bharath, Managing Director, CIAL, the perishable commodities centre will have a built-up area of 2,500 square metres and will have modern cold storage facilities. The project will be completed in a year, a press release quoting the MD said. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of the Kerala Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem. Mr T. Balakrishnan, Principal Secretary Industries, signed the MoU on behalf of the Government of Kerala, while Mr K.S. Money, Chairman, APEDA, and Mr Bharath of CIAL, signed on behalf of their respective organisations.
