New incubation centre in Bangalore

Hyderabad , Sept.12

The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is scouting for start-up companies to incubate them at Orchids Tech Space, its newest incubation centre in Bangalore. It is also finalising plans to set up its largest incubation centre in Hyderabad.

The Director of STPI, Mr B.V. Naidu, in-charge of Bangalore and Hyderabad, said: "We have identified four companies for incubation and are on the look out for six to eight more start-ups to incubate at Orchids where we have provided quality infrastructure . We have named this centre Orchids Tech Space. Just like Orchids are special, these companies need tender care which this centre seeks to provide and also expose them to the best in the world."

Indian service providers have been at the centre of supporting global companies in their quest to the creation of intellectual property (IP). Now it is the turn of some Indian companies to create IP for world markets. The STPI expects this centre would be able to create quality IP in VLSI and other technology areas, he explained.

The Silicon Valley investing community is now actively scouting for investments in the country. The difference from before is that they are insisting on an India centre which will also bring cost advantages to these start-ups. The Orchids will serve as one such centre, he said.

HYDERABAD CENTRE

"Now, we are in the process of finalising plans for a 70,000 sq. ft incubation centre in Hyderabad. This will be one of the largest such centres in the country and would be ready within a year," Mr Naidu said.

"We are in the process of discussions with The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) to provide backward linkages. The TiE is very active and is now looking at bringing entrepreneurs and the investing community closer to facilitate investments," he explained.
