Regulatory Bodies & Rulings Ess Dee, arm get USFDA approval for six plants Virendra Pandit
Ahmedabad , Sept. 14 Pharmaceutical and FMCG packaging company Ess Dee Aluminium and its 100 per cent subsidiary, Flex Art Foil, have received the Drug Master File (DMF) registration with the Department of Health and Human Science, Food and Drug Administration, USA. The Rs 126-crore company is now considering setting up a new plant at Daman and doubling the existing plant's capacity there from the current 9,000 tonnes per annum to 18,000 tonnes next year, company sources told Business Line. The expansion would involve investment of Rs 105 crore worth of capital goods alone. It was a record of sorts as the company had received USFDA approval for six of its plants within a week, said to be the first time in the Indian packaging industry. The USFDA approval is valid for all the six printing units, four under Flex and two under Ess Dee Aluminium. In a release, the company's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Sudip Dutta, said the company was striving to be the single largest fully-integrated packaging solutions provider in the world. This certification will provide the Group with an opportunity to enter the regulated markets of the US and Europe besides boosting volumes to the markets in Latin America, South Africa, West Asia and South-East Asia. Flex Art Foil is the downstream extension of Ess Dee Aluminium Ltd with aluminium foil printing units located in close proximity to the pharmaceutical hubs in Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), Vasai (Maharashtra), Daman and Goa.
