Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu Plea to promote Tiruchi as IT hub Our Bureau
Tiruchi , Sept. 14 A delegation of the Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association (TIDITSSIA) is expected to call on the Chief Minister, Mr M. Karunanidhi, and the Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Mr Dayanidhi Maran, shortly to impress upon them the need for promoting Tiruchi as IT hub and to expedite the works to establish an IT Park. Tiruchi being centrally located in the State, is well connected suiting promotion of the IT industries. The willingness of a handful of international air operators are taking initiative to further augment the international services from Tiruchi airport combined with the widening of national highways leading to the southern districts to reduce the travel time to Tuticorin port contribute to the ideal situation. "A conducive industrial climate prevailing in the district is reflected in the demand for sheds and plots promoted under the industrial estate concept. The need of the hour is the right initiative from the Central and State Governments", said the President of the TIDITSSIA, Mr S. Sridharan. Mr Sridharan said the TIDITSSIA will also urge the Chief Minister to prevail upon the Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, to provide excise duty exemption for industries, particularly the pharma companies, to be set up at the proposed special economic zone and the integrated industrial park to be established by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in Perambalur district and at Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district.
